Woman Accused of Cutting Off Daughter’s Toe Remanded

by Creative Network

A 31-year-old woman, Vivian Anto, is in police custody in Ghana’s Western North Region for allegedly severing the right index toe of her nine-year-old daughter, Diana Boakye, as punishment for returning home late.

The incident occurred on April 3, 2026, at about 9:30 a.m. in Sefwi Proso. Police say Anto used a pair of scissors to cut off the child’s toe.

A relative reported the case around 4:20 p.m. the same day.

The victim is receiving treatment at Kofikrom SDA Hospital. The severed toe has been retrieved and preserved as evidence.

Police have indicated Anto will be arraigned after the Easter break.

Vivian Anto, is remanded into police custody for a second time. Anto initially appeared before the Bodi Circuit Court on April 9, 2026, and was remanded at that time.

The court also ordered that she undergo a mental health evaluation amid concerns over her psychological well-being.

On April 21, 2026, Anto returned to court, where presiding judge His Honour James Mensah Donkor ordered that she remain in police custody for an additional day.

She is scheduled to reappear on April 22, 2026.

The hearing was delayed due to the absence of Anto’s lawyer, who had informed the court in writing that he would be unable to attend but intended to be present at the next session. Consequently, the court extended her remand.

Speaking to prosecutors, Superintendent Isaac Ostin confirmed that police had complied with the court’s earlier directives, including facilitating the ordered mental health assessment.

However, the results of that evaluation have not yet been released.
