ECG Announces GH¢3.46bn Plan to Stop ‘Dumsor’

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) says it has a new roadmap to finally stabilize the nation’s power supply, and it comes with a GH¢3.46 billion price tag.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Acting Managing Director Kwame Kpekpena broke down the plan into two key phases:

🔧 First, the emergency fixes (GH¢278 million):

• 2,500 new transformers for overloaded areas.
• 1,600 new poles to replace rotten ones.
• 28,000 fuses and 240 distribution panels to protect local lines.
• Repairs to faulty underground cables in major cities.

Then, the major rebuild (GH¢1.2 billion over 6–12 months):

• Large-scale reinforcement of networks in Accra, Tema, Ashanti, Western, and Volta regions.

“We are committed to executing this programme,” Mr. Kpekpena said, thanking the Energy Ministry for its backing.

If successful, the plan promises fewer outages and more reliable electricity for homes and businesses across Ghana.
