Ghana striker Antoine Semenyo has pulled out of the Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and Gambia.
Semenyo requested to be excused from the September-October international window to focus on recovering from a persistent ankle injury. The Manchester City forward was set to undergo independent assessments on the injury through the Ghana Football Association (GFA), with further details on his condition expected soon.
The 26-year-old has enjoyed a strong start to the Premier League campaign, netting two goals and providing three assists in five appearances for Manchester City. His withdrawal further depletes Ghana’s attacking options, as the Black Stars are already without key players Mohammed Kudus and Thomas Partey.
Ghana begin their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign against Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké on September 24, before hosting Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium five days later. In response to the growing list of absentees, the Black Stars have handed late call-ups to several players. Brandon Thomas asante, Felix Afena-Gyan and Jonas Adjetey have been added to the squad, while Rockson Yeboah and Rahim Ibrahim have earned their first senior national team invitations.
