A devastating collision on the busy Kumasi-Accra Highway has once again highlighted the dangers of the stretch, as three persons lost their lives in a multi-vehicle crash at Juaso Three-Lane on Monday morning.
The accident, which occurred near the NEXT BON Gas filling station at approximately 9:39 a.m., involved a heavy-duty Shackman F3000 truck transporting clinker and a Dongfeng passenger van.
The force of the impact left the van’s windscreen and engine compartment completely destroyed, while the truck sustained partial damage to its cowl.
Emergency services from Konongo-Odumase and Juaso Fire Stations arrived swiftly at the scene but found that members of the public had already taken the lead in rescue efforts.
The two drivers, Mr. Stephen Amankwah (truck) and Mr. Nyame Ebenezer (van), along with thirteen other injured persons, had been transported to the Juaso Government Hospital by bystanders prior to the arrival of the official rescue team.
The three deceased, two males and one female, were recovered from the wreckage by the fire crew and handed over to the Juaso Police.
The accident brings renewed attention to road safety concerns along the Kumasi-Accra corridor, a route notorious for heavy vehicular traffic and frequent crashes.
Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the collision.
