In a move to align with global aviation security trends, the Ghana Airports Company Limited has upgraded its checkpoint infrastructure at Kotoka International Airport.
The deployment of enhanced screening units at Terminals 2 and 3 represents a significant investment in operational efficiency, allowing security personnel to conduct advanced threat detection without requiring passengers to divest their personal items.
The policy shift, eliminating the mandatory removal of footwear, outerwear accessories, and electronics, signals a strategic shift toward “smooth” passenger processing. While the screening process has become more lenient regarding divestment, GACL has reiterated that strict LAG volume restrictions (100ml) remain absolute.
As the Automated Tray Return System comes online, GACL expects to reduce processing bottlenecks.
However, officials caution that a phased integration means current practices will temporarily run parallel to the new protocols.
