University of Ghana Postpones Reopening for 2026/2027 Academic Year

by Creative Network

The University of Ghana has announced the postponement of its reopening date for the 2026/2027 academic year, just days before students were scheduled to return to campus.

In a notice issued to all students and signed by Professor Gordon A. Awandare, the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, management confirmed that the university will no longer reopen on the initially scheduled date of Monday, October 12, 2026.

The statement did not provide a specific reason for the sudden change. However, management assured students that a revised reopening date will be announced in due course.

“The Management of the University of Ghana wishes to inform all students that the reopening of the University for the 2026/2027 academic year… has been postponed,” the notice read.

While acknowledging the inconvenience the delay may cause, the university expressed appreciation for the patience and understanding of the student body as arrangements for the new reopening are finalized.

In the meantime, students are being urged to use the additional time to complete their academic registration online.

Management emphasized that completing this process via the outlined procedure is necessary to secure places in classes and to maintain eligibility for the upcoming random bed allocation exercise for residential accommodation.

The university has yet to announce the new official start date for the academic year.
