Behind the Viral Video: Rosemond Akua Adobea’s Long Road to Justice

by Creative Network

For Rosemond Akua Adobea, the nightmare did not begin when a video of her alleged abuse went viral. According to court and police documents, it began months earlier, culminating in a desperate petition to the highest levels of Ghana’s criminal investigations.

On August 20, 2026, Mrs. Adobea formally submitted a petition to the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), alleging that her husband, Harold Norman, had subjected her to a harrowing cycle of physical, emotional, and economic abuse.

The petition was not the first cry for help. Preliminary investigations revealed that the couple’s troubles had already spilled into the public eye in July 2026, when the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at the Lakeside and Ministries Police Stations handled an earlier case involving the pair.

Following the August petition, the wheels of justice began to turn. On August 27, 2026, Harold Norman was arrested at his residence. He provided a caution statement to investigators and was subsequently granted Police enquiry bail on August 29 with two sureties, pending further investigation.

But just as the case was set to reach a crucial juncture, the legal process hit a roadblock. Norman was scheduled to appear before court on October 7, but his lawyer notified the Police that his client had been admitted to the hospital and was unable to appear.

Investigators from DOVVSU have since visited the hospital to verify the claim. The police have stated they are monitoring the situation and are prepared to arraign him immediately upon his discharge.

For Mrs. Adobea, the wait for justice continues. However, she is not facing the aftermath alone. The Criminal Investigation Department has confirmed it is working in close collaboration with the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection to ensure she and her children receive the necessary social welfare services and support.

In a statement signed by Chief Inspector Francis Kwesi Yeboah, the Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting victims of domestic violence.

“The Ghana Police Service remains committed to protecting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that complaints brought before the Service are investigated professionally and fairly,” the statement read.

As the legal proceedings against Mr. Norman remain pending, Mrs. Adobea’s case serves as a stark reminder of the complexities of domestic abuse, a battle that often extends far beyond the physical scars, requiring the combined efforts of law enforcement, social services, and a steadfast pursuit of justice.
