by Creative Network

A Berekum Chelsea player has died after being shot in the head during an armed robbery attack on the club’s team bus, Ghana police and club officials have confirmed.

The attack happened on Sunday on the Goaso–Bibiani road as the team returned from a league match against FC Samartex 1996.

Armed men blocked the road and opened fire, forcing players and staff to flee into nearby bushes.

The deceased, midfielder Dominic Frimpong, was on loan from Aduana FC and had made 13 league appearances this season, scoring two goals.

He died at Bibiani Government Hospital.

The Ghana Football Association called his death a “devastating loss” to Ghana football.

Police have launched a manhunt for the attackers, while the GFA says it will review security protocols for club travel.
