Gold Dealer Killed, Suspect Dies in Custody as Police Probe Double Tragedy

by Creative Network

A violent armed robbery at a gold dealership in the Western Region has left two men dead, the victim and a prime suspect who died while in police custody, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s sudden demise.

Seth Kobina, a 40-year-old gold dealer, was shot in the chest when armed men attacked his shop at Agona Fie, near Agona Nkwanta, on the evening of Thursday, August 20, 2026.

Despite being rushed to hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The police, leveraging CCTV footage from the crime scene, quickly identified the alleged leader of the gang as Emmanuel Amponsah, alias “Vandam,” 29.

He was arrested the following day at a guest house in Agona Nkwanta, where police recovered a locally manufactured pistol and two live BB cartridges.

Tragically, Amponsah fell ill while in custody and was rushed to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police have not yet disclosed the nature of his illness, and an inquiry into his death is expected.

Undaunted, investigators pressed on and arrested four additional suspects: Christopher Seyiri (“Cross and Die”), Bashiru Ibrahim, Thomas Odoom (“Wale”), and Isaac Quayeson (“Last Burial”).

Quayeson, arrested at Denkyira Kwaboso in the Western North Region, was found in possession of a pistol, ammunition, a metal bar, and cutlasses.

During questioning, Quayeson reportedly pointed to Amponsah as the triggerman and identified Odoom as another figure seen in the CCTV footage.

The four surviving suspects remain in custody as police intensify efforts to track down other accomplices believed to be at large. The investigation continues.
