16 Arrested in Major Drug Ring in Kumasi – IGP Special Operations Team

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team (SOT), in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command, has arrested 16 suspected drug peddlers and seized substantial quantities of narcotic substances during a series of intelligence-led operations across the Kumasi Metropolis.

The coordinated raids, conducted at multiple locations including Asawase, Asafo, Krofrom, Atonsu-Bokuro, Kenyase, Asokwa, and Buokrom, targeted identified hubs for the distribution and sale of illicit drugs, according to a police press release issued on June 25, 2026.

In a significant operation at Asawase, officers arrested Kwame Afriyie, 61, also known as “Con Papa” or “American Man,” described by police as a notorious drug peddler.

A search of his room and provision shop uncovered a total of 81 parcels of compressed substances suspected to be cannabis, 33 from his room and 48 from his shop.

At Asafo, police arrested Kofi Acheampong, alias “Mokobiley.” A search of his room yielded:

  • 311 transparent rubber sachets containing dried leaves suspected to be narcotics
  • 13 compressed parcels of dried leaves suspected to be narcotics
  • 10 brown paper wraps containing black rock-like substances suspected to be narcotics
  • Quantities of restricted pharmaceutical products

In a related operation at Krofrom, Michael Owusu Agyeman, 22, a National Service personnel, was arrested with 15 bottles of fruit juice suspected to have been laced with cannabis.

Further operations led to the arrest of the following individuals:

  • Adamu Ibrahim, 44
  • Stanley Boahene, 24
  • Favour Emmanuel, 23
  • Abubakar Sadick, 28
  • Adwoa Serwaa Boamah, 36
  • Paul Quagraine, 40
  • Nana Kwasi Amo Peprah, 47
  • Hamdiyah Ibrahim, 37
  • Nicholas Adorku, 39
  • Natson Yaaba, 31

Other exhibits seized during the operations included compressed parcels of suspected cannabis, tramadol, ecstasy tablets, amphetamine tablets, suspected cocaine, and other controlled substances. All exhibits have been secured for forensic examination.

All suspects have been arraigned before court and remanded into police custody. They are scheduled to reappear on later dates as investigations continue to identify and apprehend other individuals connected to the illicit drug trade.

The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its unwavering commitment to combating the trafficking, peddling, and abuse of narcotic drugs.

The Command commended the IGP Special Operations Team and the Regional Police Team for their professionalism, dedication, and relentless efforts in disrupting criminal networks involved in the illicit drug trade.
