Two Robbers Jailed 30 and 25 Years for Attack on Gold Dealer at Obuasi

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has secured the conviction of two suspects in connection with a violent robbery at Asonkore in Obuasi.

Rashid Adams and Godfred Ampadu pleaded guilty before the Bekwai Circuit Court on April 10, 2026, to charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery.

Adams was sentenced to 30 years imprisonment, while Ampadu received a 25-year sentence. Both terms are to run concurrently.

The court heard that on April 3, 2026, the two attacked a gold dealer, knocking the victim down with a tricycle before making off with gold and cash.

A third suspect, Dominic Naazie, who is alleged to have aided the crime, pleaded not guilty. He has been remanded in custody and is set to reappear before the court on April 24, 2026.

Following police investigations, authorities were able to retrieve the stolen gold. A vehicle believed to have been purchased with proceeds from the robbery was also seized.

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling violent crime in the region, vowing to ensure that offenders are brought to justice.
