A driver who allegedly disabled his employer’s security system by cutting electrical cables before stealing GH¢750,000 from a law office at Adabraka has been remanded by an Accra Circuit Court.

Theophilus Terkpernor, 45, was arrested on June 1 while attempting to deposit GH¢74,400 at Standard Chartered Bank’s head office to purchase a Toyota Corolla.

According to the prosecution led by Chief Inspector Ebenezer Teye Okuffo, the complainant, a lawyer whose name has been withheld, arrived at his chambers on May 27 to find the office broken into and the power off.

An electrician discovered that cables in the control room had been cut, disabling the CCTV camera.

The stolen amount comprised GH¢50,000 kept under the complainant’s table and GH¢700,000 from a cabinet.

Police intelligence tracked Terkpernor to the bank, where the GH¢74,400 was retrieved. During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to stealing GH¢330,000, not the full GH¢750,000.

He led police to Somanya in the Eastern Region, where his son Kelvin Terkpernor had been keeping part of the money. The son was arrested but escaped, though police recovered GH¢203,300 from under his bed.

Total recovered so far stands at GH¢277,700.

Terkpernor has pleaded not guilty to unlawful entry, causing unlawful damage, and stealing. He has been remanded into lawful custody.
