Police Arrest Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena, Two Others Over Adwoa Safo Shooting

The Ghana Police Service has made significant progress in the investigation into the shooting incident that targeted former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, on the evening of June 21, 2026.

The prime suspect, Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena, turned himself in at the Regional Police Headquarters the following day.

He was immediately placed in the custody of the CID for interrogation.

In a coordinated operation, police executed search warrants at Akofena’s residence and vehicle in Kwabenya, uncovering a substantial weapons haul that included multiple high-calibre ammunition rounds and two Glock pistols.

The investigation widened on June 22 with the arrest of two accomplices, Nana Kwaku Afriyie and Kwadwo Safo Koomson. Authorities are currently probing the motive behind the attack and the source of the recovered firearms.

The three suspects are currently assisting with inquiries and are expected to be formally charged when they appear before the court on June 23, 2026.

The Police Service has assured the public that it remains committed to ensuring justice is served swiftly.
