FIFA President Gianni Infantino and CAF President Patrice Motsepe have led global football’s outpouring of grief following the fatal shooting of Berekum Chelsea forward Dominic Frimpong, who was killed during an armed robbery on the club’s team bus last Sunday.

The 20-year-old winger, on loan from Aduana FC, was returning from a Ghana Premier League away fixture when the attack occurred. The incident has sent shockwaves through the country’s football community and reignited urgent concerns over player safety during domestic travel.

In a statement released Tuesday, Infantino said he was “deeply saddened” by the circumstances of Frimpong’s death.

“I am deeply saddened to hear of the tragic passing of Berekum Chelsea Football Club’s Dominic Frimpong following a reported attack on the team while returning from a Ghana Premier League fixture,” Infantino said.

“On behalf of the global football community and everyone at FIFA, we send our condolences to his family, friends, everyone at Berekum Chelsea FC, and all those who knew him.”

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe described the killing as “devastating,” extending his sympathies to the Ghana Football Association and Frimpong’s loved ones.

“It is with profound sadness that I learned of the armed robbery attack on the bus of Berekum Chelsea,” Motsepe said. “May God comfort and console his loved ones and the entire Ghanaian football community. CAF is with you during this sad and painful period.”

Frimpong, described as a promising young talent who had been making steady progress since joining Berekum Chelsea earlier this year, is survived by his family and teammates. Authorities have launched an investigation into the attack, as Ghanaian football continues to mourn one of its brightest young prospects.
