Black Queens’ Bonus Dispute Resolved Following Commanding Victory

by Creative Network

The Ghanaian women’s national team, the Black Queens, have received their long-awaited bonuses from the 2024 WAFCON tournament, resolving a recent dispute with the Sports Ministry. The payment was settled on Tuesday evening after the team’s 4-0 win over Egypt sealed their qualification for the next Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Each player was granted a $9,000 bonus for their third-place performance in Morocco last July. After a mandatory tax deduction of $500, the net amount received was $8,500.

This settlement brings relief after a tense standoff that had led the team to briefly suspend training ahead of the crucial qualifier. The issue was resolved following several high-level meetings, allowing the team to focus and deliver an emphatic 7-0 aggregate victory.

With the matter now closed, the players were presented with their cheques at the Erata Hotel. The team will disband on October 29th to return to their clubs, before regrouping in November for a preparatory friendly against England.
