The Ghana Education Service (GES) has shut down its teacher recruitment portal just days after opening on April 10, 2026, following an overwhelming response.
Over 40,000 applicants vied for only 7,000 positions, forcing an early closure to manage the volume.
Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu stated that budgetary constraints limited the intake, adding that ideally, up to 50,000 teachers could have been hired if resources permitted.
He emphasised that the process remains transparent and merit-based, with shortlisted candidates to be assessed on readiness, competence, and qualifications.
