The Accra Regional Police Command has debunked reports claiming that inmates who recently escaped from legal custody are suspects in the murder of the father-in-law of Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Chief Executive, Sammy Gyamfi.
In a strongly worded statement, the Command dismissed media speculation suggesting that three of the six individuals who escaped from the Adabraka District Police Station on April 26, 2026, were connected to the high-profile murder case.
The Police clarified that none of the escapees had ever been detained at the Adabraka station in relation to the murder investigation.
The statement emphasized that there is no link, investigative or otherwise, between the fugitives and the case involving Mr. Gyamfi’s relative.
Providing an update on the security breach, the Command confirmed that three of the six escapees have already been re-arrested following a swift operational response.
A manhunt is currently active to apprehend the remaining three fugitives.
The Command has initiated a full-scale inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the escape to determine if there was any negligence or breach of protocol at the Adabraka District Police Station.
The Police Service concluded by reassuring the public of its commitment to maintaining law and order.
Authorities are urging anyone with credible information regarding the whereabouts of the remaining three escapees to contact the nearest police station immediately.
