by Creative Network

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 22-year-old man following the circulation of a disturbing video on social media in which he posed as a masked bandit and made threats that triggered fear and anxiety among the public.

The suspect, identified as Evans Puplampu, was taken into custody on Tuesday, 7th April 2026, at Ashaiman Community 22, after intelligence-led surveillance operations by police investigators.

The now-viral video showed the individual with his face concealed, accompanied by the caption: “We are starting from Ghana churches.” The clip spread rapidly on TikTok, generating widespread alarm and concerns over public safety.

Upon interrogation, Puplampu admitted to being the person in the video. He told investigators that he had mimicked a similar trending social media pose for fun, and claimed he had no intention of causing harm or panic.

Police have since retrieved a Samsung Galaxy A15 mobile phone, believed to have been used to create and share the video, which is being retained as an exhibit.

The suspect remains in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations and is expected to be arraigned before the court to face justice.

The Ghana Police Service urges the public to refrain from creating or sharing content likely to disturb public order, and reminds citizens that such actions, even when claimed to be jokes, have legal consequences.
