In a bizarre turn of events on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, former NAFCO CEO Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, walked free from court after the state withdrew all charges against them – only to be re-arrested moments later.
The two were standing trial over their alleged role in a GH¢78 million school feeding procurement scandal. They had pleaded not guilty.
Deputy Attorney-General Dr. Justice Srem-Sai informed an Accra court that the state was discontinuing proceedings against the couple. The court struck out the charges and discharged them.
But before the couple could leave the premises, security operatives moved in and re-arrested them. At the time of filing this report, the reason for the fresh arrest remains unclear.
The dramatic development cut short what would have been a major legal victory for the couple. Before the withdrawal, the trial had been mired in procedural wrangling.
At the last hearing, Principal State Attorney Esi Dentah Yankah told the court the prosecution had filed two witness statements on April 24, 2026, but wanted to replace them with earlier ones from December 18, 2025.
Defence lawyers – including former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame – objected fiercely, arguing the prosecution had breached court rules.
Justice Francis Achibonga sided with the defence, striking out the new witness statements for non-compliance.
The court had also temporarily struck out an EOCO officer from the prosecution team, directing the Attorney-General’s Department to produce proof of authorisation.
However, with the state suddenly withdrawing charges, the judge never got to deliver a final ruling on that issue.
As of Tuesday evening, it is not known what fresh allegations or legal basis triggered the re-arrest of the discharged couple. Officials have yet to comment.
