IGP Inauguraties Ghana Police Music Academy

by Creative Network

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, on Wednesday inaugurated the Ghana Police Music Academy at the National Police Training School in Tesano, Accra.

The academy is established as a centre of excellence dedicated to fostering discipline, professionalism, national cohesion, and the promotion of peace and security through the power of music.

In his address, the IGP highlighted the universal significance of music. “Music is a fundamental part of the human experience, present in every culture and at every stage of life,” he stated. “Whether we create it or simply listen, music accompanies our moments of joy, solace, and reflection, bringing light to our darkest hours and amplifying our celebrations.”

He described the inauguration as a historic milestone, signalling a progressive philosophy of policing. “Today, we are not merely opening a facility; we are affirming a strategic vision that recognises music as a vital instrument for security, discipline, national unity, and public trust,” Dr. Dampare emphasised.

The IGP outlined a modern understanding of security management, noting that effectiveness now hinges as much on public confidence and cultural connection as on enforcement capability.

“This academy positions Ghana as a regional hub for structured and professional security music training within West Africa and beyond,” he added.

Linking the launch to the festive season, Dr. Dampare reflected on its symbolic timing.

“Christmas embodies peace, sacrifice, and service values that align directly with our mandate. As we reflect on the passing year, we honour the immense sacrifices of officers nationwide who safeguard lives and property, often at great personal risk.”

Reminding personnel of their unwavering duty, he said, “Our calling demands constant vigilance. Your professionalism during this festive period and beyond will reaffirm our foundational commitment to national safety and security.”

The IGP extended gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed to the project’s realisation and charged band personnel to leverage the academy fully. “Strive for excellence and elevate our band unit to be among the very best,” he urged.

Looking ahead, Dr. Dampare concluded: “As we step into the new year, let us continue building a Ghana Police Service that is not only operationally robust but also culturally resonant, publicly engaged, and internationally esteemed.”
