The Majority Caucus of Ghana’s Parliament has expressed profound shock and sorrow at the sudden passing of former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.

In an official statement delivered by the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, the Caucus paid tribute to the late Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings, recognizing her as a dedicated stateswoman whose remarkable contributions were instrumental to the nation’s development and democratic governance.

The statement, which conveyed the sentiments of the Rt. Hon. Speaker Alban Bagbin, the entire Majority Caucus, and Parliament as a whole, extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, particularly her husband, former President H.E. Flt. Lt. J.J. Rawlings, and her daughter, Hon. Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle.

Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings, who served as First Lady from 1981 to 2001, passed away in the early hours of Thursday, October 23, 2025, following a brief illness.

She was widely celebrated for her lifelong advocacy for women’s empowerment and her pivotal role in founding the 31st December Women’s Movement. Honoring her legacy, the statement concluded, “She paid her dues to this country. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
