Former Awutu Senya East MP, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has spoken out after allegedly being assaulted during the parliamentary election rerun in the Ablekuma North Constituency.
In a statement, Hawa Koomson claimed she was attacked by individuals she identified as “NDC machomen” while monitoring proceedings at a polling station. She also revealed that her mobile phone was snatched during the altercation.
Mavis Hawa Koomson has since warned the public to disregard any calls, messages, or social media posts made from her number following the incident, stating that such communications are unauthorized. She urged vigilance until she regains control of her digital accounts.
The incident occurred at the St. Peter’s Society Methodist Church polling station in Odorkor, where tensions flared after unidentified men—reportedly arriving in a pickup truck and on motorbikes—caused chaos among voters and electoral officials.
Eyewitnesses say the former MP, Hawa Koomson attempted to defend herself with pepper spray but was overpowered and assaulted. A viral video from the scene shows the former MP on the ground, surrounded by an agitated crowd.
Despite heightened security presence at polling stations, the clash could not be prevented. Authorities are investigating the motive behind the attack.
