4 Arrested Over Brutal Killing of Couple

A quiet evening in the suburb of Kusanaba turned into a scene of horror on June 10 when four armed men stormed the home of Apam Azubilla and his wife, Apam Anomsigna, and shot them dead in their own room.

Nearly ten days later, the Upper East Regional Police Command has announced a breakthrough in the case.

Four suspects, Safianu Salam, Awal Salam, Jawal Salam, and a juvenile, were arrested on June 19 at a hideout in Kugre, near Garu, following intensive intelligence-led operations.

The attack unfolded around nightfall. According to police sources, the assailants forced their way into the couple’s residence and opened fire.

The victim’s brother, Ayubugre Apam, who lived nearby, was alerted by the piercing screams of his brother. He rushed to the scene only to find the couple lying motionless on the floor with blood pooling around them.

Emergency responders rushed Apam Anomsigna to the Zegoyire Health Centre, but she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Her husband was referred to the Zebilla District Hospital but succumbed to his injuries before medical staff could intervene.

Post-mortem examinations confirmed that both deaths were caused by gunshot wounds.

The family has since handed over three spent AK-47 cartridges to investigators as part of the ongoing forensic analysis.

Authorities have confirmed that all four suspects remain in custody and will face the full weight of the law. The juvenile’s identity has been withheld in accordance with legal provisions.

The court date is yet to be announced.
