The Catholic Diocese of Konongo-Mampong has confirmed that suspended priest Fr. Samuel Adapore has been found at the Police Training Centre in Koforidua, Eastern Region, where he voluntarily enlisted for training to join the Ghana Police Service.
The Diocese issued this clarification on 27 August 2026 in response to public criticism over his indefinite suspension a divinis (effective 24 August).
The Diocese addressed concerns about his welfare, the canonical basis for suspension (citing Canons 533 and 1717), and his right to defence, stating that these are legitimate but cannot be fully assessed from a public statement alone.
It emphasised that a bishop must balance pastoral care with ecclesiastical discipline, and that a priest’s unexplained absence cannot indefinitely halt governance or parish ministry.
Suspension restricts priestly functions but does not mean Fr. Adapore has ceased to be a priest or been abandoned.
The Diocese rejected claims that discipline and concern for his welfare are mutually exclusive, and urged caution in public debate, protecting his dignity and privacy.
It maintains that finding him does not remove the need to address his departure from ministry, and calls for prayer for him. The statement was signed by Chancellor Very Rev. Fr. John Kyere.
