Kadjebi Farmer Arrested for Killing Girlfriend’s 80-Year-Old Mother

A quiet community in the Oti Region has been left reeling after a 36-year-old farmer allegedly killed the 80-year-old mother of his girlfriend during a violent domestic attack.

The Kadjebi District Police Command confirmed the arrest of Chalim Madzaton, also known as Peter Tano, on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.

According to authorities, the suspect went into hiding in Kpaya but was tracked down and captured following an intelligence-led operation.

The nightmare unfolded a day earlier, on March 24, when police received a report of an attack at a residence in Mangoase.

The suspect’s girlfriend, Yaa Tugbenyo, 55, reportedly escaped the assault.

But when she returned home, she made a devastating discovery: her mother, Dakolor Semaka, lay motionless on the floor.

Officers who arrived at the scene described visible signs of violence on the elderly victim.

She was later pronounced dead by a medical officer at St. Mary Theresa Hospital.

As the investigation continues, Madzaton remains in police custody awaiting his day in court. The body of the deceased is currently preserved at the hospital morgue pending an autopsy.
