The Government of Ghana has secured a reversal of the visa restrictions imposed by the United States in July.
According to an announcement by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the U.S. Department of State has reinstated the eligibility of Ghanaian applicants for five-year, multiple-entry visas.
This decision follows high-level diplomatic discussions and marks a significant shift from the previous policy.
The now-reversed restrictions had limited most non-immigrant visa categories—including B1/B2 (business/tourism) and F1 (student) visas—to single-entry status with a validity of only three months.
This had posed considerable challenges for Ghanaians engaged in long-term study, frequent business, or tourism in the United States.
The restoration of longer-validity, multiple-entry visas is expected to normalize travel and strengthen bilateral relations.
