In a swift response to a devastating blaze at the Tudu Police Barracks Trading Area, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has released a GH₵106,000 relief package to the 106 affected traders and residents.
Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey, who personally assessed the damage following the fire, emphasized that the cash is an immediate stopgap, not a full compensation for lost goods, to help victims cover urgent needs.

He conveyed sympathies from President John Dramani Mahama and regional ministers.

During the presentation on Thursday, the Mayor issued a stern appeal for honesty, warning against false claims by those who suffered no losses.

“It is unfair to cheat genuine victims,” he stated, urging absent affected persons to register through their leaders.

Highlighting systemic risks, Allotey pointed to dangerous electrical connections at the site, reiterating the AMA’s long-standing call for traders to cooperate on safer redevelopment plans.

While grateful, victims appealed for further aid to fully restart their businesses.
