The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has fired Black Stars head coach Otto Addo with immediate effect, ending his tenure following a poor run of results.
The decision was triggered by a series of unconvincing displays, including recent friendly losses to Austria and Germany, which sparked doubts about the team’s readiness for the World Cup.
In a short statement, the GFA thanked Addo for his service:
“The Association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours.”
Addo, who led Ghana at the 2022 World Cup, leaves just as the team steps up preparations for the next edition. His departure signals a change in technical direction as the GFA moves to fix performance issues and restore team morale.
Ghana faces a daunting group stage battle against England, Panama, and Croatia in Group L.
The GFA says it will announce a new technical setup, including a head coach, in due course.
The dismissal highlights the urgency within Ghana’s football leadership to turn around the team’s fortunes and push for a stronger showing on the global stage.
