First Lady Lordina Mahama has commissioned a newly constructed and fully equipped maternity and children’s ward at the Asukawkaw Health Facility in the Krachi East Municipality.

The newly inaugurated facility is designed to provide comprehensive care for mothers and newborns.

It features a dedicated delivery room and a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), equipped with incubators and phototherapy machines to offer critical care for infants.

Further enhancing its capabilities, the ward is furnished with a range of essential medical equipment, including an ultrasound machine, patient monitors, autoclaves, vaccine refrigerators, modern adjustable hospital beds, and baby cots.

The facility also includes nurses’ offices and examination rooms to ensure efficient and effective healthcare service delivery.

The commissioning ceremony on Saturday, February 28, was attended by high-profile dignitaries, including the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh; Oti Regional Minister, John Kwadwo Gyapong; the Member of Parliament for Krachi East, Nelson Kofi Djabab; and the Municipal Chief Executive for Krachi East, Safo Nketia.

Representatives from the Lordina Foundation were also present.

Speaking at the event, the First Lady underscored the critical importance of maternal and child health.

She emphasized that no woman should lose her life while giving birth and that a child’s location should not determine their access to proper medical care.

Health Minister Mintah Akandoh commended the local community for their initiative and the Member of Parliament for Krachi East for his instrumental role in facilitating the project’s successful completion.

“I acknowledge the community’s initiative in engaging the Lordina Foundation, and I commend the Member of Parliament for Krachi East for his role in supporting this outcome,” the Minister stated.

The new maternity and children’s ward is expected to significantly improve access to quality maternal and neonatal services, thereby enhancing healthcare outcomes for mothers and children throughout the Krachi East Municipality.
