The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has taken healthcare to the lecture hall with the kick-off of its “Campus Connect” initiative.
The programme launched at Takoradi Technical University (TTU), turning student orientation into a one-stop shop for health insurance.
Gone are the days of off-campus queues and paperwork.

Designed by NHIA’s Marketing and Branding Unit, Campus Connect plants NHIS services directly in the heart of campus life.
Students can now register, renew, and get their questions answered without stepping off university grounds, a move aimed at tearing down barriers to healthcare for the student population.
TTU’s Vice Chancellor, Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun, gave the initiative a full endorsement.
“Health financing is critical. Too often, students fall ill but can’t afford care. I urge every student here: seize this moment, get registered, or renew your membership,” he advised during the launch.
For the NHIA, this is a deliberate shift toward the younger generation.
“Campus Connect is about letting students focus on their studies, not on medical bills. We’re literally bringing the NHIS to your doorstep,” said Joyce Angela Asiedu (Esq.), Deputy Director for Marketing and Branding.
She reassured students of the scheme’s full backing from NHIA CEO Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe and cautioned against illegal fees at healthcare facilities, urging students to report any wrongdoing through official NHIA lines.
In a significant side announcement, Raymond Awiah, NHIA’s Western Regional PR Manager, shared that a major 120% tariff increase is on the horizon for this year.
The hike, he explained, is designed to boost payments to healthcare providers, which should, in turn, cut down on instances of unlawful charges to members at NHIS-accredited centres.
This campus launch is just the beginning. The NHIA plans to roll out Campus Connect to tertiary institutions nationwide, marking a targeted push to grow membership, enhance service delivery, and weave students into the fabric of the national health insurance system.
