A major step in West Africa’s clean energy transition was launched on Monday, January 26, 2026, with the commissioning of Ghana’s first Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) facility.

The $15 million project, developed by Tetracore Energy Group through its subsidiary Tetracore Gas Ghana, was inaugurated at the Tema Industrial Area.

The event was led by Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama, represented by Energy Minister Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, and attended by senior officials, diplomats, and industry leaders.

Key highlights during the commissioning include energy partnership as the project strengthens Nigeria-Ghana energy cooperation, utilizing Nigerian expertise and investment.

Additionally, the project is anticipated to generate 500–600 direct and indirect jobs in Ghana and foster skills transfer within local communities.

Again, it positions CNG as a cleaner, more affordable alternative for industry and transport, enhancing Ghana’s energy security.

Tetracore has nearly tripled its CNG capacity in two years, currently supplying clean energy to over 45 industrial customers in Nigeria.

President Mahama’s statement highlighted the facility as a boost to industrial competitiveness and a model for public-private partnerships in sustainable development.

The launch sets a new benchmark for integrated gas infrastructure in West Africa and signals potential for similar CNG and gas-to-power projects across the region.
