In a significant move signaling early and strategic preparations, former President John Mahama inaugurated an 11-member inter-ministerial committee tasked with steering Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The committee, established to ensure a coordinated and successful campaign for the Black Stars, brings together a diverse array of expertise from across government and the sports sector. The team will be led by Stan Xoese Dogbe, Deputy Chief of Staff, who will serve as Chairman. He will be assisted by the Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, as Vice Chairman.

The committee boasts a strong representation from key ministries, ensuring all facets of the national effort are aligned. Members include:
- Kofi Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation
- George Opare, Minister for Youth Development
- Yusif Jajah, Deputy Minister for Tourism and Culture
- Ampem Nyarkoh, Deputy Finance Minister
- Kurt Okraku, Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA)
- Elizabeth Yankah, Deputy National Security Coordinator
- Abedi Pele, Ghanaian football legend and three-time African Footballer of the Year
- Wilhelmina Asamoah, Chief Director at the Ministry of Sports
Demonstrating the government’s commitment to this endeavor, an initial allocation of GH₵150 million has been earmarked to support the committee’s preparatory work. This early financial backing is a crucial step in facilitating the extensive planning required for logistics, fan engagement, and athlete support well ahead of the tournament.
