5 Critically Injured in Fiery Crash at Kumasi Asafo Labour Roundabout

A routine morning turned into chaos on Tuesday when a runaway Kia Rhino truck crashed into a commercial vehicle at the Asafo Labour Roundabout, leaving five people battling for their lives.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck, loaded with plantains, suffered a catastrophic brake failure while descending from Amakom.

The driver swerved sharply to avoid a massive traffic jam ahead, but the vehicle slammed into a commercial car coming from Kejetia.

“If he hadn’t swerved, we would be counting dozens of deaths today,” said witness Yaw Gabriel.

“The traffic was heavy. He chose the lesser evil.”

Rescue efforts were frantic, with bystanders using makeshift tools to cut through the mangled metal to free trapped victims. Five people, including security personnel, were rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in critical condition.

Police have cleared the scene, but the wreckage and scattered plantains serve as a grim reminder of how narrowly this was avoided becoming a mass casualty event.
