VALCO to be Reassigned to Lands Ministry by 2026 – Armah-Kofi Buah

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has announced that concrete plans are underway to transfer oversight of the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO) back to his Ministry by the end of 2026.

“VALCO began the year under the purview of the Ministry of Energy, but it is being returned to its natural home, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources,” stated Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah.

The strategic relocation, he explained, is intended to forge a stronger operational synergy between VALCO and the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC).

This alignment is critical to unlocking the complete value chain of Ghana’s aluminium industry and positioning it as a catalyst for national economic transformation.

Addressing participants at the Ministry’s retreat for its agencies in Ellembelle, the Minister assured mining communities that a revitalized VALCO, working in concert with GIADEC and the Ghana Integrated Steel Development Corporation (GISDEC), will ensure tangible benefits flow to local communities and the broader nation.

“VALCO works directly with GIADEC. Soon, our national conversation will shift beyond gold to prioritize the growth of our iron, steel, and aluminium industries.”
