The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect believed to be responsible for a break-in and theft at Spintex in Accra, leading to the recovery of a significant amount of money and personal effects.
The arrest follows an incident on March 4, 2026, when a resident of Spintex returned home from work around 4:00 PM to discover that her house had been broken into.
According to a police news brief, the victim reported that an amount of GH¢1,000 and US$22,350 in cash, along with other personal belongings, had been stolen from the residence.
Acting on intelligence gathered, police investigators arrested the suspect, identified as Daniel Odai Afotey, at Labone Beach on March 11, 2026.
A subsequent search of the suspect’s room led to the recovery of the stolen cash and items, as well as other suspected stolen property.
The recovered items include gold watches, jewellery, mobile phones, and a television set.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and implicated an accomplice only known as “Ewonam,” who is currently at large.
Police say efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the fugitive.
The suspect is scheduled to be arraigned before the court on Monday, March 16, 2026.
The police have indicated that they are working to trace the owners of the remaining recovered property.
Individuals who may have lost items under similar circumstances within Spintex, Teshie, Nungua, and the surrounding areas are urged to contact the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters to assist in the identification process.
