The Madina Divisional Police Command has launched an investigation into a shooting incident that left former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, with a gunshot injury to her left ear.
The incident occurred on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at a residence in Kwabenya linked to her late father, the founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission.
According to preliminary police reports, the former MP sustained the injury while visiting the property.
She subsequently reported the matter to the Kwabenya Police and presented her vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado with registration number GN 3482-24, which bore visible marks of gunshot damage.
Police have impounded the vehicle for forensic examination and issued Adwoa Safo with a medical report form.
In a significant development, police have arrested six private security guards in connection with the shooting.
A search at the scene led to the recovery of five pump-action guns, a Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an extra magazine, and other communication equipment.
A police situation report also named the former MP’s brother, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, and the Deputy General Secretary of the church, Kwasi Adjei, as having allegedly ordered the shooting, and stated that they have been invited for questioning.
The incident is set against the backdrop of a heated leadership succession dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of its founder, Apostle Emeritus Kwadwo Safo.
Reports indicate the shooting occurred on the same day her brother was being installed as the new leader, a move that has been challenged in court by other family members.
However, the leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission has strongly denied the shooting allegations, accusing Adwoa Safo of forcefully driving her vehicle into the church’s entrance gates and causing substantial damage.
The church claimed she created a serious risk to life and property, and that security personnel only intervened to prevent escalation.
The church’s lawyer, Nana Kofi Kantanka, has added another layer to the narrative, alleging that Adwoa Safo fired the first shot during the confrontation.
He claimed that after she rammed her car into the gates, private security guards fired warning shots because they perceived a threat to people gathered for the event.
The lawyer stated he could not confirm whether she had been injured.
