President John Dramani Mahama visited two Ghanaian survivors of a recent terrorist attack in Burkina Faso on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, as they continue to receive medical care at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.
The two individuals are the sole survivors from a group of Ghanaian tomato traders who were ambushed by armed assailants while traveling on a truck.
In a brutal assault, the attackers reportedly separated the male passengers, executed them, and subsequently set the vehicle on fire.
The tragic incident claimed the lives of seven Ghanaian nationals, who have since been laid to rest.
Upon returning to Accra from an official assignment in Takoradi, the President proceeded directly to the hospital to offer his condolences and hear first-hand accounts of the attack. He was accompanied by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah.
During the visit, President Mahama reassured the survivors that the government would cover all their medical expenses. He also commended the Ghana Armed Forces for their swift role in repatriating them.
Hospital officials confirmed that in addition to treatment for physical injuries, the survivors are receiving comprehensive psychosocial support and counselling to aid their recovery.
