President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday, August 6, led a National Inter-Faith Memorial Service for the eight victims of last year’s military helicopter crash, urging stronger safety standards for service personnel.
The August 6, 2025, crash claimed the lives of then Defence Minister Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, then Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, and NDC National Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong.
Others include the former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, military high command, and bereaved families attended the Accra ceremony.
President Mahama described the tragedy as a day of national grief and called for enhanced welfare for public servants.
The government presented GH¢1 million trust funds for each child of the deceased, health insurance, and other support.
Commemorative activities include the inaugural Dr. Edward Omane Boamah Memorial Lecture held August 4, a cenotaph unveiling later today, and a nationwide blood donation exercise, “Service to the Soul,” on August 8.
