From Remand to Scotland: Abronye DC Secures Court Permission to Fly Out of Ghana

Just days after finding himself back in custody for breaching his bail terms, NPP Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC), has secured a legal victory.

The Accra High Court has cleared the way for him to fly to the UK to pursue his master’s degree at the University of Aberdeen.

It has been a turbulent month for the politician.

On June 4, a request to waive his passport surrender condition backfired drastically when Justice Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Bassit realized Abronye had never actually handed the passport in, leading to his immediate remand.

After swiftly correcting the mistake and spending a few days facing the reality of his legal situation, Abronye’s bail was restored on June 8. Now, the court has shown a degree of leniency, allowing him to travel, but with a very short leash. He must be back in Ghana and hand his passport back to the registry by June 30, 2026.

The 44-year-old firebrand is fighting serious charges of offensive conduct and publishing false news after allegedly calling an Adenta Circuit Court judge a “politician” who covered their hair with a “sack.” While his academic journey continues, his legal battles back home are far from over.
