Court Remands Mason Over Defilement of Two-Year-Old

A 45-year-old mason has been remanded by the Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court for allegedly defiling a two-year-old girl at Ogome, near Somanya.

Richard Langma pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared before the court on Monday.

The prosecution told the court that the accused, who is a relative of the victim’s mother, lived in the same compound house with the family.

On June 24, the unwell mother left her daughter playing with another child while she rested.

A witness later heard the child crying and found her in the accused’s room.

The child was bleeding from her private parts and was rushed to hospital.

She was treated and discharged the same day.

The accused was arrested and allegedly told investigators he committed the act because he believed the child had a spirit that needed to be removed.

The court has adjourned the case to July 13.
