A 26-year-old man, Ebenezer Frimpong, has appeared in court charged with stealing a police armoured vehicle in a bizarre daylight incident that ended in a dramatic highway chase.
Reports indicated that on April 15, 2026, a police driver, Lance Corporal Joshua Denkyi, left the armoured vehicle (GP 1131) idling outside Nkawie Market while he stepped into a nearby pharmacy.
Frimpong, who was passing by, allegedly seized the moment, jumped into the driver’s seat and sped off.
A seven-man SWAT team launched a hot pursuit along the Abuakwa-Kumasi stretch. Witnesses described the chase as “Rambo-style.”
Frimpong was finally arrested at Atwima Mim.
Currently, Frimpong is being held on a provisional theft charge. He made his first court appearance after being transferred to the Ashanti Regional Criminal Investigations Department for further questioning.
The armoured vehicle has been retained as an exhibit. Frimpong remains in custody at the Abuakwa District Police Command. His fate now lies with the judicial process.
