10 Killed in VIP Bus, Trailer Crash

A tragic road accident on the Accra–Kumasi Highway has claimed ten lives after a VIP bus attempting a wrongful overtaking manoeuvre struck a diesel trailer.

The Ghana National Fire Service confirmed the incident occurred at approximately 2:00 PM on April 13 at Mile 44.

The Suhum Municipal Fire Station received a distress call and deployed a seven-member team, which arrived at the scene within minutes.

Preliminary investigations indicate the bus driver’s decision to overtake unsafely led to the collision.

Of the 33 passengers aboard, ten—nine males and one female—succumbed to their injuries.

Fortunately, no victims were trapped inside the wreckage, though both the bus and the trailer sustained partial damage. Firefighters secured the site and concluded operations before returning to base.

Authorities are expected to provide further updates as investigations continue.
