UCC Student Dies in Tragic Campus Accident

A Level 200 student of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has tragically died following a road accident on campus.

The student, Kweku Mensah, was pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance.

According to a statement from the university, the incident occurred at about 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2026, along the road between the Amissah-Arthur Language Centre and the Sandwich Lecture Theatre.

Preliminary reports indicate that Mr. Mensah was riding a motorcycle to retrieve his identification card from Oguaa Hall before a scheduled examination when he collided with an Ayalolo bus.

The student sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the UCC Hospital for emergency care. However, medical personnel were unable to save him, and he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The university has reported the incident to the UCC Police and the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), which has launched an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

Mr. Mensah’s body has been deposited at the UCC Morgue, and his family has been formally notified.

In its statement, the university extended its deepest condolences to the family and appealed for calm within the campus community.

“The University extends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and urges the University community to remain calm as investigations continue,” the statement read.

The institution has assured the public that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
