Suspects Arrested After Trying to Bribe Police with GH¢69,000 to Free Drug Trafficker

An attempt to bribe police officers in the Western Region has backfired spectacularly, leading to the arrest of two men and the interception of a major drug haul.

It began when police stopped a Kia truck at the Assorku Barrier on Sunday evening. Officers discovered 152 bales of suspected cannabis concealed under sawdust in two separate vehicles.

Moses Kweku Tawiah was arrested at the scene in connection with the haul.

Shortly after, Kwabena Forson and Isaac Kwame Kontor arrived on the scene and allegedly attempted to offer the police GH¢69,000 in cash to secure Tawiah’s release.

Demonstrating professionalism, the officers rejected the bribe and immediately placed the two men under arrest.

The Western Regional Police Command confirmed that the 152 bales, each containing an estimated 80 parcels of compressed leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, were taken from two Kia trucks.

Authorities have commended the officers for their integrity and assured the public that the fight against drug trafficking remains a top priority.
