State Funeral for Helicopter Crash Victims: Full Details for Friday’s Ceremony

The state funeral honoring the victims of the August 6, 2025, helicopter crash will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Black Star Square in Accra, beginning at 7:30 a.m. The ceremony, led by the Ghana Armed Forces, will consist of three key segments: a pre-burial service, the main funeral, and the burial at the Military Cemetery in Burma Camp.

Funeral Schedule & Arrangements

At a media briefing on Thursday, August 14, Mr. Stan Dogbe, Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Operations at the Office of the President, outlined the program:

  • 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.: Pre-burial service featuring tributes, Quran recitations, and institutional eulogies.
  • 8:50 a.m.: Arrival of Vice-President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.
  • 9:00 a.m.: Arrival of President John Dramani Mahama, followed by the state funeral service.
  • Tributes will be delivered by colleagues, family members (including parents, siblings, widows, and children), and senior government officials. The biographies of the six victims will also be read.
  • After the service, the remains of the six victims will be transported to the Military Cemetery at Burma Camp for burial.

Security & Protocol Guidelines

Mr. Dogbe emphasized the importance of order and solemnity, urging mourners to:

  • Arrive early and remain within designated canopies.
  • Follow security and protocol instructions.
  • Note that seating will be labeled, and only accredited media personnel will be permitted near the inner perimeter.
  • Unaccredited media outlets should use the designated media stands, where audio and clean video feeds will be provided.

He assured that heightened security measures are in place not only for the President and Vice-President but also to ensure the safety of all attendees.

The nation is invited to join in honoring the departed while adhering to the outlined arrangements for a dignified and peaceful ceremony.
