Seven Ghanaian Tomato Traders Killed in Burkina Faso Terrorist Attack

Seven Ghanaian tomato traders have been killed in a terrorist attack in northern Burkina Faso. The group was traveling in a truck when armed fighters stormed the town of Titao, targeting men on sight.

According to the Interior Minister, Muntaka Mubarak, the truck carried 10 men and eight women. Seven men were killed, three others injured, and one woman was seriously hurt. The remaining seven women escaped physically unharmed.
The minister explained that the victims’ bodies had deteriorated, so Burkina Faso authorities arranged for burial the next day.
Since the area is still unsafe, Ghana’s embassy couldn’t attend. Instead, DNA samples were taken before burial to confirm identities later. The women who survived have already provided names of those killed.

Plans are underway for Burkina Faso’s military to escort the survivors from Titao to the capital, where they’ll be handed over to Ghanaian officials.
The government is urging the public not to share graphic videos online, as some families are finding out about their loved ones through social media.
Mubarak also highlighted the broader security crisis in the Sahel, noting around 80 deaths daily from such attacks, and called for stronger regional cooperation to tackle the threat.
