The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of a key suspect linked to a brazen daylight armed robbery at a jewellery shop in Adabraka, Accra. The robbery, which occurred on November 2, 2024, resulted in the theft of GH₵7.5 million.

According to a statement from the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector General of Police, the stolen funds were proceeds from a gold transaction being transported to a bank when the attack took place.

After months of intelligence-led operations, police apprehended the suspect, Salim Mohammed, alias Fariwata, on November 20, 2025. He was arrested at a hospital in Ashaiman where he was seeking medical treatment.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Mohammed and his accomplices, armed with AK-47 assault rifles, intercepted the victim’s vehicle. The robbers reportedly fired multiple shots to disperse bystanders during the attack, injuring the vehicle’s driver before escaping with the cash.

Salim Mohammed is currently in police custody assisting with the investigation. Authorities have stated that intensive efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the remaining suspects and to recover the stolen money.

The Ghana Police Service is urging anyone with credible information that could lead to the arrest of the other individuals involved to report promptly to the nearest police station.
