The Ghana Police Service has arrested two men suspected of a string of street robberies following an intelligence-led operation in Dzorwulu, Accra.
According to the Accra Regional Police Command, officers from the Kotobabi District Command spotted the suspects on an unregistered black Royal 125 motorbike during a patrol on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.
The rider, Stephen Gletsu, 37, and his pillion rider, Mohammed Sheriff, 20, were both dressed in black attire and helmets. Police noted that Sheriff was visibly brandishing a cutlass.
Upon seeing the patrol team, the suspects attempted to flee, prompting a chase. After warning shots were fired, they lost control of the motorbike near Roman Ridge, close to the Nigerian High Commission. Both were apprehended while trying to escape on foot.
A search of the suspects revealed multiple stolen items, including:
- Several mobile phones (iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro, Samsung A21, Infinix, Nokia, and Itel models)
- A necklace
- Cash totaling GH¢2,690.00 and US$2.00
The suspects sustained minor injuries during the arrest and were treated at the Police Hospital. During interrogation, they admitted to robbing several victims across Accra, attacking them with a machete to steal phones, money, and other valuables.
Victims have since identified the suspects and their stolen property. Four additional accomplices have also been arrested in follow-up operations.
The suspects have been arraigned and remanded into police custody. They are expected to reappear in court on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
The Accra Regional Police Command reaffirmed its dedication to eradicating street crime and ensuring the safety of all residents.
