The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested 132 suspects in a series of targeted operations aimed at ensuring security during the festive season. The operations, which included raids and traffic checks, also led to the recovery of motorcycles, narcotics, and suspected stolen items.
At a press briefing on December 23, Regional Public Relations Officer Superintendent Juliana Obeng outlined the coordinated efforts. “These sustained operations across multiple jurisdictions are part of our strategy to combat crime this Christmas and beyond,” she stated.
The operations were conducted as follows:
On December 18, personnel from the Kotobabi District (Nima Division) arrested four suspects during a swoop at Alojo, near Merciful Hotel Annex.
On December 19, a motor traffic operation around East Legon and the Airport Division resulted in the impoundment of 36 motorcycles. Riders committing minor offences were cautioned, while others are being processed for court.
On December 21, personnel from the Railways District Command (Accra Central Division) arrested 15 persons at identified criminal hideouts.
Additional operations were carried out in other parts of the metropolis.
“All suspects are currently undergoing screening,” Superintendent Obeng noted. “Those found culpable will be prosecuted, while innocent persons will be released. Recovered exhibits have been retained and will be sent for forensic analysis where necessary.”
She reaffirmed the police’s commitment to public safety, urging continued cooperation from the public. “The Command assures unwavering dedication to maintaining law and order and combating crime. We encourage the public to provide timely information to help keep Accra safe.”
