Members of Parliament on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, were not left out of the new iniative by the government to rock Fugu attire, pupolarly known in the country as Batakari.
The directive announced by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, forms part of promoting Ghana’s cultural heritage, hence, all Ghanaians and friends of Ghana worldwide are encouraged to wear Fugu every Wednesday in its various forms and accessories.
Signed by Minister Ablah Dzifa Gomashie, the weekly celebration is expected to boost the creative economy by empowering local weavers, designers, artisans, and traders, creating jobs and expanding business opportunities across the country.
The government views the collective wearing of Fugu as a symbol of cultural confidence, national unity, and self-expression.
Starting from the House of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban K.S. Bagbin, Speaker of the House ensured he was not left out.
